CentOS é uma distribuição Linux de nível corporativo derivada de fontes disponíveis livremente ao público pela Red Hat. CentOS é totalmente compatível com as políticas de redistribuição do fabricante e tem como objetivo ter 100% de compatibilidade binária. (CentOS basicamente altera os pacotes para remover as marcas e artes gráficas do fabricante.). CentOS é livre.

A versão 6 foi anunciada oficialmente e pode ser baixada através dos torrents ou espelhos locais:

O Linux cresce cada vez mais, e isso não se dá de maneira automática. Existe muita gente que trabalha bastante para que ele seja bem sucedido onde aplicado. Na foto abaixo, podemos ter uma idéia das pessoas que desenvolvem diversas partes do pingüim.

O kernel 2.6.26.1 foi lançado, e quem usa a última versão estável (mas talvez não tão estável assim), deve atualizar. Segue um trecho da mensagem na íntegra:

We (the -stable team) are announcing the release of the 2.6.26.1
kernel.
It contains lots of bugfixes, all over the map. Any users of the 2.6.26
kernel series should upgrade to this version. For details on the fixes,
see the changelog entries and the diffstat below.
I’ll also be replying to this message with a copy of the patch between
2.6.26 and 2.6.26.1
The updated 2.6.26.y git tree can be found at:
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.26.y.git

Leitura recomendada. Se você precisa ajustar alguma configuração do Linux, identificar algum gargalo no seu sistema, esse documento pode te ajudar. É o Redpaper da IBM Linux Performance and Tuning Guidelines, e um trecho do documento diz:

The use of Linux in an enterprise-class server requires monitoring performance and, when
necessary, tune the server to remove bottlenecks that affect users. This IBM Redpaper
publication describes the methods you can use to tune Linux, tools that you can use to
monitor and analyze server performance, and key tuning parameters for specific server

Você provavelmente se encontra em uma situação parecida nas suas tarefas rotineiras:

Por que alimentar um processo (less) com a saída do outro (cat), sendo que o less é capaz de abrir o arquivo e ler seu conteúdo?
